Understanding Color Temperature (Warm vs. Cool)
Color temperature is measured in Kelvin (K). Warm indoor lights (around 2700K–3200K) add an orange or yellowish cast, while daylight and monitor glare (6000K+) create a cool, bluish look. A well-calibrated webcam automatically balances these tones so your skin looks natural.
Quick Test with White Paper
To check if your camera's auto white balance is accurate, hold a plain sheet of white printer paper in front of the lens and click on it. If the Red, Green, and Blue numbers are nearly equal (for example, rgb(210, 210, 212)), your camera's color reproduction is balanced.
Fixing Yellow, Green, or Washed-Out Video
Unnatural skin tones usually happen when you have conflicting light sources—like a warm ceiling light combined with cool glow from a bright monitor. Try using a single diffuse light source facing you, or close window blinds to keep ambient lighting consistent.
