Webcam Optical Focus Test
Inspect optical lens sharpness and chromatic aberration using standard Siemens Star resolution patterns, USAF 1951 test charts, and a 4x interactive digital loupe magnifier.
How to Use This Test
- Click "Start Camera" to load your live video preview.
- Hold a document with printed text or a business card about 40–50 cm (arm's length) from the camera.
- Watch the Center Focus Score to measure how clearly the lens resolves fine details.
- Check the Corner Falloff percentage to see if edges remain sharp or get blurry.
What Does Corner Falloff Mean?
Camera lenses are naturally sharpest right in the middle. The "Corner Falloff" metric measures how much clarity decreases near the outer borders of your frame. A falloff under 15%–20% indicates high-quality optical glass, while cheaper plastic lenses may show noticeable softness around the corners.
The Most Common Culprit: Dirty Lenses
If your webcam looks permanently foggy or soft, it is almost always caused by skin oils or fingerprints transferred when adjusting your screen. Gently wiping the lens with a clean microfiber cloth often solves blurriness instantly.
Fixed-Focus Distance Limits
If holding text close to your webcam makes it completely illegible, your camera is likely a fixed-focus model. Fixed lenses are pre-calibrated to keep people at typical desk distance in focus, but cannot focus on items closer than about 35 cm.
