How to Use This Tool

  1. Click "Start Camera" to load your live video preview.
  2. Drag the Zoom Factor slider to zoom in on your face, whiteboard, or presentation notes (up to 5.0×).
  3. When zoomed in, use the Pan (Horizontal) and Tilt (Vertical) sliders to center your subject.
  4. Check the status cards below to see whether your device uses motorized hardware PTZ or smooth digital cropping.

Optical Zoom vs. Digital Crop

Optical Zoom physically moves glass lens elements to magnify the image without losing any pixel resolution. Digital Zoom crops into the center of the camera's sensor. On a 1080p or 4K camera, modest digital zoom (up to 1.5× or 2.0×) keeps your video clear while hiding messy background clutter.

Why Hardware Pan & Tilt Show as "Unsupported"

Motorized Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) requires dedicated mechanical motors inside the camera chassis (such as robotic streaming cameras or conference room systems). Built-in laptop webcams do not contain moving motors, so they rely on browser-level digital panning instead.

Ideal Framing for Video Calls

Position your camera roughly at eye level and zoom slightly so your eyes sit about one-third down from the top of the frame. This creates a natural, professional look for interviews, lectures, and work meetings.
